Living Bible
8 Everyone must wear sackcloth and cry mightily to God, and let everyone turn from his evil ways, from his violence and robbing. 9 Who can tell? Perhaps even yet God will decide to let us live and will hold back his fierce anger from destroying us.”
10 And when God saw that they had put a stop to their evil ways, he abandoned his plan to destroy them and didn’t carry it through.

8 But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call(A) urgently on God. Let them give up(B) their evil ways(C) and their violence.(D) 9 Who knows?(E) God may yet relent(F) and with compassion turn(G) from his fierce anger(H) so that we will not perish.”
10 When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented(I) and did not bring on them the destruction(J) he had threatened.(K)
