Then Jonah began to go through the city one day’s walk; and he (A)cried out and said, “Forty more days, and Nineveh will be overthrown.”

Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a (B)fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them. When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he got up from his throne, removed his robe from himself, (C)covered himself with sackcloth, and sat on the [a]dust.

Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming,(A) “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.(B)

When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.(C)
