Jonah Flees the Presence of the Lord

1 Now the word of the Lord came to ^(A)Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

^25 (A)He restored the border of Israel ^(B)from Lebo-hamath as far as the Sea of ^(C)the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant ^(D)Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from ^(E)Gath-hepher.

The Sign of Jonah

^29 (A)When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, ^(B)“This generation is an evil generation. ^(C)It seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. ³⁰ For as ^(D)Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.

^32 (A)The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and ^(B)condemn it, for ^(C)they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, ^(D)something greater than Jonah is here.

^4 (A)An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So ^(B)he left them and departed.
