Oración de Jonás
2 [a]Entonces Jonás oró al Señor su Dios desde el interior del pez 2 y dijo:
«En mi gran aflicción clamé al Señor
y él me respondió.
Desde la tierra de los muertos[b] te llamé,
¡y tú, Señor, me escuchaste!
3 Me arrojaste a las profundidades del mar
y me hundí en el corazón del océano.
Las poderosas aguas me envolvieron;
tus salvajes y tempestuosas olas me cubrieron.
4 Entonces dije: “Oh Señor, me has expulsado de tu presencia;
aun así volveré a mirar hacia tu santo templo”.
5 »Me hundí bajo las olas
y las aguas se cerraron sobre mí;
las algas se enredaban en mi cabeza.
6 Me hundí hasta las raíces de las montañas.
Me quedé preso en la tierra,
cuyas puertas se cierran para siempre.
Pero tú, oh Señor mi Dios,
¡me arrebataste de las garras de la muerte!
7 Cuando la vida se me escapaba,
recordé al Señor.
Elevé mi oración sincera hacia ti
en tu santo templo.
8 Los que rinden culto a dioses falsos
le dan la espalda a todas las misericordias de Dios.
9 Pero yo te ofreceré sacrificios con cantos de alabanza,
y cumpliré todas mis promesas.
Pues mi salvación viene solo del Señor».
10 Entonces el Señor ordenó al pez escupir a Jonás sobre la playa.

Jonás ora a Dios
2 Desde allí, Jonás oró a Dios:
2 «Cuando estaba sufriendo,
tú, mi Dios, me ayudaste.
Cuando estaba casi muerto,
pedí ayuda y me la diste.
3 »Me arrojaste a lo más hondo del mar.
Sólo agua veía yo por todos lados;
grandes olas cruzaban sobre mí.
4 »Llegué a pensar que ya no me querías,
que no volvería a entrar en tu templo.
5 »Me había hundido por completo.
El mar me cubría todo,
y las algas se enredaban en mi cabeza.
6 »Creí que ya nunca saldría del fondo del mar.
Pero tú, Dios mío, me salvaste la vida.
7 »Cuando ya estaba sin fuerzas,
me acordé de ti, y oré.
Mi oración llegó hasta tu santuario.
8 »Los que adoran a otros dioses,
a los ídolos sin vida,
no pueden decir que tú eres su Dios.
9 »Pero yo voy a adorarte
y a cantarte con alegría.
Cumpliré las promesas que te hice.
¡Porque sólo tú puedes salvar!»
10 Por fin, Dios le ordenó al pez: «¡Arroja a Jonás en la orilla del mar!»

2 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly,
2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.
7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.
10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
