New International Version

⁷The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die,^(A) because he claimed to be the Son of God.”^(B)

⁷The Jews^[a] answered him, “We have a law, and ^(A)according to that law he ought to die because ^(B)he has made himself the Son of God.”

John 19:7 Greek Ioudaioi probably refers here to Jewish religious leaders, and others under their influence, in that time; also verses 12, 14, 31, 38

⁷The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
