Afbryd ikke forbindelsen til mig, så vil jeg heller ikke afbryde forbindelsen til jer![a] Ligesom grenene på en vinstok kun kan bære frugt, hvis de bliver på stokken, sådan kan I kun bære frugt, hvis I bliver i mig og henter jeres kraft fra mig. De, der bliver i mig, bærer megen frugt, men uden mig kan I intet udrette.

De grene, der afbryder forbindelsen til mig, bliver som sagt fjernet og smidt på jorden, fordi de ikke bar frugt. Derpå tørrer de ind og bliver til sidst samlet sammen og brændt.

Men hvis I bliver i mig, og handler på mine befalinger, så bed om, hvad I vil, og det vil ske.

Remain in me, as I also remain in you.(A) No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
