³Jesus, knowing ^(A)that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that ^(B)he had come from God and ^(C)was going back to God, ⁴rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, ^(D)tied it around his waist. ⁵Then he ^(E)poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

³Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power,^(A) and that he had come from God^(B) and was returning to God; ⁴so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.^(C) ⁵After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet,^(D) drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
