Spiritual Blindness

35 Jesus heard that they had driven him out, and when he found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”[a](A) 36 He answered, “And who is he, sir?[b] Tell me, so that I may believe in him.”(B) 37 Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and the one speaking with you is he.”(C) 38 He said, “Lord,[c] I believe.” And he worshiped him. 39 Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see may see and those who do see may become blind.”(D) 40 Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this and said to him, “Surely we are not blind, are we?”(E) 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would not have sin. But now that you say, ‘We see,’ your sin remains.(F)

36 The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.”

37 “You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!”

38 “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said. And he worshiped Jesus.

39 Then Jesus told him,[b] “I entered this world to render judgment—to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see[c] that they are blind.”

40 Some Pharisees who were standing nearby heard him and asked, “Are you saying we’re blind?”

41 “If you were blind, you wouldn’t be guilty,” Jesus replied. “But you remain guilty because you claim you can see.
