⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”^(A)

Jesus the Light of the World

¹² Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”^(A)

⁴⁶ I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness.^(A)

⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us, saying,

¹⁴ for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

¹⁸ to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’^(A)

²³ And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb.^(A)

⁴ in him was life,^[a] and the life was the light of all people.^{(A) 5} The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it.

⁶ There was a man sent from God whose name was John. ⁷ He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. ⁸ He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. ⁹ The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.^[b](B)

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.^{(A) 20} For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed.^{(B) 21} But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God.”^[a](C)
