35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in (A)the Son of Man?”[a] 36 He answered, (B)“And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” 37 Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and (C)it is he who is speaking to you.” 38 He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. 39 Jesus said, (D)“For judgment I came into this world, (E)that those who do not see may see, and (F)those who see may become blind.” 40 Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, (G)“Are we also blind?” 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, (H)you would have no guilt;[b] but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.

I Am the Good Shepherd

10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. (I)A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” This figure of speech Jesus (J)used with them, but they (K)did not understand what he was saying to them.

So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (L)I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, (M)he will be saved and will go in and out and (N)find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and (O)kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. 11 (P)I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd (Q)lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is (R)a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and (S)leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and (T)scatters them. 13 He flees because (U)he is a hired hand and (V)cares nothing for the sheep. 14 (W)I am the good shepherd. (X)I know my own and (Y)my own know me, 15 (Z)just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and (AA)I lay down my life for the sheep.

Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, (A)does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching (B)has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, (C)do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, 11 for whoever greets him (D)takes part in his wicked works.

And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we (A)keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments (B)is a liar, and (C)the truth is not in him, but whoever (D)keeps his word, in him truly (E)the love of God is perfected. (F)By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he (G)abides in him (H)ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

A Tree and Its Fruit

15 (A)“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are (B)ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them (C)by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, (D)every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 (E)Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them (F)by their fruits.
