²² His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that anyone who confessed Jesus^[a] to be the Messiah^[b] would be put out of the synagogue.^(A)

² They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, an hour is coming when those who kill you will think that by doing so they are offering worship to God.^(A)

¹³ Yet no one would speak openly about him for fear of the Jews.^(A)

²² “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you^[a] on account of the Son of Man.^(A)

⁴² Nevertheless many, even of the authorities, believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue,^{(A) 43} for they loved human glory more than the glory that comes from God.

³⁴ They answered him, “You were born entirely in sins, and are you trying to teach us?” And they drove him out.

⁸ But as for the cowardly, the faithless,^[a] the polluted, the murderers, the sexually immoral,^[b] the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”^(A)

Paul Rebukes Peter at Antioch

¹¹ But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he stood self-condemned,^{(A) 12} for until certain people came from James, he used to eat with the gentiles. But after they came, he drew back and kept himself separate for fear of the circumcision faction.^{(B) 13} And the other Jews joined him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.

⁴⁰ and when they had called in the apostles, they had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and let them go.^(A)

¹³ None of the rest dared to join them, but the people held them in high esteem.^(A)
