⁵³ Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. ^(A)Who do You make Yourself out to be?”

¹² Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

The King of Righteousness^(A)

7 For this ^(B)Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, ² to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace,” ³ without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.

⁴ Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the ^[a]spoils. ⁵ And indeed ^(C)those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham; ⁶ but he whose genealogy is not derived from them received tithes from Abraham ^(D)and blessed ^(E)him who had the promises. ⁷ Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better.

^5 (A)of whom are the fathers and from ^(B)whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, ^(C)who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.

² who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as ^(A)Moses also was faithful in all His house. ³ For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as ^(B)He who built the house has more honor than the house.

⁷ The Jews answered him, ^(A)“We have a law, and according to ^[a]our law He ought to die, because ^(B)He made Himself the Son of God.”

³⁴ The people answered Him, ^(A)“We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”

³³ The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for ^(A)blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, ^(B)make Yourself God.”

^29 (A)My Father, ^(B)who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. ^30 (C)I and My Father are one.”
