^5 (A)Now ^[a]Moses, in the law, commanded us ^[b]that such should be stoned. But what do You ^[c]say?”

^10 (A)‘The man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death.

²¹ then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with ^(A)stones, because she has ^(B)done a disgraceful thing in Israel, to play the harlot in her father’s house. ^(C)So you shall ^[a]put away the evil from among you.

^22 (D)“If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die—the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel.

²³ “If a young woman who is a virgin is ^(E)betrothed to a husband, and a man finds her in the city and lies with her, ²⁴ then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones, the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he ^(F)humbled his neighbor’s wife; ^(G)so you shall put away the evil from among you.

³⁸ And I will judge you as ^(A)women who break wedlock or ^(B)shed blood are judged; I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy. ³⁹ I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your shrines and break down ^(C)your ^[a]high places. ^(D)They shall also strip you of your clothes, take your beautiful jewelry, and leave you naked and bare.

^40 (E)“They shall also bring up an assembly against you, ^(F)and they shall stone you with stones and thrust you through with their swords.

Christ Fulfills the Law

^17 (A)“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

⁶ So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

⁷ They said to Him, ^(A)“Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”

⁸ He said to them, “Moses, because of the ^(B)hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your ^(C)wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

¹⁶ And they sent to Him their disciples with the ^(A)Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not ^[a]regard the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

¹⁸ But Jesus ^[b]perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?

^47 (A)The assembly shall stone them with stones and ^[a]execute them with their swords; ^(B)they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn their houses with fire.
