^47 (A)Whoever is of God hears the words of God. ^(B)The reason why you do not hear them is that ^(C)you are not of God.”

⁹ Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, ^(A)does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching ^(B)has both the Father and the Son.

³⁷ Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, ^(A)“You say that I am a king. ^(B)For this purpose I was born and for this purpose ^(C)I have come into the world—^(D)to bear witness to the truth. ^(E)Everyone who is ^(F)of the truth ^(G)listens to my voice.”

²⁶ but ^(A)you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. ^27 (B)My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets, ^(A)‘And they will all be ^(B)taught by God.’ ^(C)Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— ^46 (D)not that anyone has seen the Father except ^(E)he who is from God; he ^(F)has seen the Father.

¹⁰ By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, ^(A)nor is the one who ^(B)does not love his brother.

Test the Spirits

4 Beloved, ^(A)do not believe every spirit, but ^(B)test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for ^(C)many ^(D)false prophets ^(E)have gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: ^(F)every spirit that confesses that ^(G)Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, ³ and every spirit ^(H)that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and ^(I)now is in the world already. ⁴ Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for ^(J)he who is in you is greater than ^(K)he who is in the world. ^5 (L)They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and ^(M)the world listens to them. ⁶ We are from God. ^(N)Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know ^(O)the Spirit of truth and ^(P)the spirit of error.

⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.

³⁷ I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet ^(A)you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.
