⁴⁰ but now ^(A)you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth ^(B)that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.

²⁶ I have much to say about you and much to judge, but ^(A)he who sent me is true, and I declare ^(B)to the world ^(C)what I have heard from him.”

²⁹ But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh ^(A)persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, ^(B)so also it is now.

¹⁶ Have I then become your enemy by ^(A)telling you the truth?^[a]

¹² Therefore, ^(A)rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But ^(B)woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because ^(C)he knows that his time is short!”

¹³ And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued ^(D)the woman who had given birth to the male child.

¹⁷ Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off ^(A)to make war on the rest of ^(B)her offspring, ^(C)on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to ^(D)the testimony of Jesus. And he stood^[a] on the sand of the sea.

⁴ His tail swept down ^(A)a third of the stars of heaven and ^(B)cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child ^(C)he might devour it.

¹² We should not be like ^(A)Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? ^(B)Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. ¹³ Do not be surprised, brothers,^{[a] (C)}that the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that ^(D)we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. ^15 (E)Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that ^(F)no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

¹² and to make him the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.
