39 ‘Our father is Abraham,’ they replied.
‘If you were Abraham’s children,’ Jesus told them, ‘you would do what Abraham did.(A) 40 But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth(B) that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. 41 You’re doing what your father does.’(C)
‘We weren’t born(D) of sexual immorality,’(E) they said. ‘We have one Father – God.’(F)

39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”(E)
