38 I am speaking the things which I have seen with My[a] Father. And you therefore are doing[b] the things which you heard from your father”.
You Are Doing The Works of Your Father, Not Abraham
39 They responded and said to Him, “Our father is Abraham”. Jesus says to them, “If you are children of Abraham, you would be doing the works of Abraham. 40 But now[c] you are seeking to kill Me— a man Who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

New International Version
38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence,(A) and you are doing what you have heard from your father.[a]”(B)
39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,”(C) said Jesus, “then you would[b] do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me,(D) a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God.(E) Abraham did not do such things.
