¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ^(A)“I am the light of the world. He who ^(B)follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Jesus Defends His Self-Witness

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said to Him, ^(C)“You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not ^[a]true.”

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but ^(D)you do not know where I come from and where I am going.

³⁹ And Jesus said, ^(A)“For judgment I have come into this world, ^(B)that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”

⁴⁰ Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, ^(C)and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”

⁴¹ Jesus said to them, ^(D)“If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

⁹ Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? ^(A)If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the ^(B)light of this world. ¹⁰ But ^(C)if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

³⁴ The people answered Him, ^(A)“We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer ^(B)the light is with you. ^(C)Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; ^(D)he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. ³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become ^(E)sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and ^(F)was hidden from them.

^22 (A)If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, ^(B)but now they have no excuse for their sin. ^23 (C)He who hates Me hates My Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them ^(D)the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have ^(E)seen and also hated both Me and My Father. ²⁵ But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, ^(F)‘They hated Me without a cause.’
