The (A)officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” 46 The (B)officers answered, “(C)Never has a man spoken like this!” 47 The Pharisees then answered them, “(D)Have you also been led astray? 48 (E)Have any of (F)the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him? 49 But this crowd which does not know the Law is accursed.” 50 (G)Nicodemus (he who came to Him before), being one of them, *said to them, 51 (H)Does our Law judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing?” 52 They answered him, “(I)Are you also from Galilee? The Unbelief of the Authorities

Then the officers returned to the high priests and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”

The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like that!”

Then the Pharisees replied to them, “You haven’t been deceived, too, have you? 48 None of the authorities or Pharisees has believed in him, have they? 49 But this mob that does not know the Law—they’re under a curse!”

One of their own, Nicodemus (the man who had previously met with Jesus),[a] asked them, 51 “Surely our Law does not condemn[b] a person without first hearing from him and finding out what he is doing, does it?”

They answered him, “You aren’t from Galilee, too, are you? Search and see that no prophet comes from Galilee.” 53 Then all of them went to their own homes.

The Woman Caught in Adultery
