45 The (A)officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” 46 The (B)officers answered, “(C)Never has a man spoken like this!” 47 The Pharisees then answered them, “(D)Have you also been led astray? 48 (E)Have any of (F)the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him? 49 But this crowd which does not know the Law is accursed.” 50 (G)Nicodemus (he who came to Him before), being one of them, *said to them, 51 (H)Does our Law judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing?” 52 They answered him, “(I)Are you also from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.” 53 [a][Everyone went to his home.

An Adulteress Forgiven

But Jesus went to (J)the Mount of Olives.

45 The guards returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked, “Why didn’t you bring him?”

46 The guards answered, “No one has ever spoken the way he does.”

47 The Pharisees replied, “Have you too been deceived? 48 Have any of the leaders believed in him? Has any Pharisee? 49 No, only this crowd, which doesn’t know the Law. And they are under God’s curse!”

50 Nicodemus, who was one of them and had come to Jesus earlier, said, 51 “Our Law doesn’t judge someone without first hearing him and learning what he is doing, does it?”

52 They answered him, “You are not from Galilee too, are you? Look it up and you will see that the prophet doesn’t come from Galilee.”

53 They each went to their own homes, And Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
