⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me^(A) because I testify that its works are evil.^(B)

²⁷ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.^(A) I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled^(B) and do not be afraid.

²¹ For since in the wisdom of God the world^(A) through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save^(B) those who believe.^(C)

³² Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined^(A) so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.^(B)

⁹ Resist him,^(A) standing firm in the faith,^(B) because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.^(C)

3 See what great love^(A) the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!^(B) And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.^(C)

¹³ Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters,^[a] if the world hates you.^(A)
