^27 (A)However, we know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from.”

⁴¹ Others said, “This is ^(A)the Christ.”

But some said, “Will the Christ come out of Galilee? ^42 (B)Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, ^(C)where David was?”

The Coming Messiah

⁴² And they said, ^(A)“Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”

²⁹ We know that God ^(A)spoke to ^(B)Moses; as for this fellow, ^(C)we do not know where He is from.”

^54 (A)When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? ^55 (B)Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And ^(C)His brothers ^(D)James, ^[a]Joses, Simon, and Judas? ⁵⁶ And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” ⁵⁷ So they ^(E)were offended at Him.

But Jesus said to them, ^(F)“A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”

³ Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and ^(A)brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they ^(B)were offended at Him.

²² So all bore witness to Him, and ^(A)marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, ^(B)“Is this not Joseph’s son?”
