²³ Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath?

¹⁴ Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning^(A) or something worse may happen to you.” ¹⁵ The man went away and told the Jewish leaders^(B) that it was Jesus who had made him well.

The Authority of the Son

¹⁶ So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him.

⁵ Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath^(A) and yet are innocent?

² When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”^(A)

⁸ Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”^{(A) 9} At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
