¹³ Yet ^(A)for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him.

Jesus Is Buried

^38 (A)After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly ^(B)for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body.

²² (His parents said these things ^(A)because they feared the Jews, for ^(B)the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should ^(C)confess Jesus^[a] to be Christ, ^(D)he was to be put out of the synagogue.)

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

^19 (A)On the evening ^(B)of that day, the first day of the week, ^(C)the doors being locked where the disciples were ^(D)for fear of the Jews,^[a] Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ^(E)“Peace be with you.”

⁴² Nevertheless, ^(A)many even of the authorities believed in him, but ^(B)for fear of the Pharisees they did not ^(C)confess it, so that they would not be ^(D)put out of the synagogue; ^43 (E)for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.

¹³ “‘I know where you dwell, ^(A)where Satan's throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not ^(B)deny my faith^[a] even in the days of Antipas ^(C)my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

^9 (A)for which I am suffering, ^(B)bound with chains as a criminal. But ^(C)the word of God is not bound! ¹⁰ Therefore ^(D)I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain ^(E)the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with ^(F)eternal glory. ¹¹ The saying is ^(G)trustworthy, for:

for ^(N)he cannot deny himself.

¹² For before certain men came from James, ^(A)he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing ^(B)the circumcision party.^{[a] 13} And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.

³⁴ They answered him, ^(A)“You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they ^(B)cast him out.
