¹² And there was much ^(A)muttering about him among the people. ^(B)While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, ^(C)he is leading the people astray.”

¹⁶ Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not ^(A)from God, ^(B)for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, ^(C)“How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And ^(D)there was a division among them.

Division Among the People

⁴⁰ When they heard these words, ^(A)some of the people said, “This really is ^(B)the Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others said, “This is ^(C)the Christ.” But some said, ^(D)“Is the Christ to come from Galilee? ⁴² Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes ^(E)from the offspring of David, and comes ^(F)from Bethlehem, the village ^(G)where David was?” ⁴³ So there was ^(H)a division among the people over him.

⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, ^(A)“Have you also been deceived?

Officers Sent to Arrest Jesus

³² The Pharisees heard the crowd ^(A)muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent ^(B)officers to arrest him.

¹⁴ Do all things ^(A)without grumbling or ^(B)disputing,

⁷ For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—

²⁴ for he was a good man, ^(A)full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people ^(B)were added to the Lord.

^19 (A)There was again a division among the Jews because of these words. ²⁰ Many of them said, ^(B)“He has a demon, and ^(C)is insane; why listen to him?” ²¹ Others said, “These are not the words of one who is oppressed by a demon. ^(D)Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”
