16 Now when evening came, His (A)disciples went down to the sea, 17 and after getting into a boat, they began to cross the sea (B)to Capernaum. It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 And the sea *was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. 19 Then, when they had rowed about [a]twenty-five or thirty stadia, they *saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened. 20 But He *said to them, [b]“It is I; [c](C)do not be afraid.” 21 So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

22 On the next day, (D)the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other small boat there, except one, and that Jesus (E)had not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had gone away alone. 23 Other small boats came from (F)Tiberias near to the place where they ate the bread after the (G)Lord (H)had given thanks. 24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and (I)came to Capernaum seeking Jesus.

16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was already dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 A strong wind started to blow, and the sea became rough.

19 After they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea toward their boat, and they were afraid.

20 But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid!”

21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.

Bread From Heaven

22 The next day, the crowd that stayed on the other side of the sea noticed that only one boat[a] was there. They also knew that Jesus had not stepped into the boat with his disciples, but they had gone away without him. 23 Other boats from Tiberias came to shore near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord gave thanks. 24 When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus.
