⁶⁹ We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”^[a](A)

²⁷ She said to him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah,^[a] the Son of God, the one coming into the world.”^(A)

²⁰ Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Messiah^[a] of God.”^(A)

²⁹ He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.”^[a](A)

Faith Conquers the World

5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ^[a] has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child.^(A)

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true;^[a] and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.^(A)

³ the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh^(A)

³¹ But these are written so that you may continue^[a] to believe that Jesus is the Messiah,^[b] the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.^(A)

²⁸ Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him about whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.”^{(A) 46} Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”^{(B) 47} When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, “Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!”^{(C) 48} Nathanael asked him, “Where did you get to know me?” Jesus answered, “I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.” ⁴⁹ Nathanael replied, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”^(D)
