⁵⁴ Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood ^(A)has eternal life, and ^(B)I will raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. ⁵⁶ Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood ^(C)abides in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As ^(D)the living Father ^(E)sent me, and ^(F)I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. ^58 (G)This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread^[a] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Institution of the Lord's Supper

^14 (A)And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. ¹⁵ And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. ¹⁶ For I tell you I will not eat it^{[a] (B)}until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” ¹⁷ And he took a cup, and ^(C)when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. ^18 (D)For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine ^(E)until the kingdom of God comes.” ^19 (F)And he took bread, and ^(G)when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, ^(H)“This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” ²⁰ And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, ^(I)“This cup that is poured out for you is ^(J)the new ^(K)covenant in my blood.^[b]

¹⁴ Therefore, my beloved, ^(A)flee from idolatry. ¹⁵ I speak ^(B)as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. ^16 (C)The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? ^(D)The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? ¹⁷ Because there is one bread, we who are many are ^(E)one body, for we all partake of the one bread. ¹⁸ Consider ^(F)the people of Israel:^{[a] (G)}are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar? ¹⁹ What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that ^(H)an idol is anything? ²⁰ No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice ^(I)they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. ^21 (J)You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and ^(K)the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and ^(L)the table of demons. ^22 (M)Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? ^(N)Are we stronger than he?
