⁵¹ I am the living bread ^(A)which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and ^(B)the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

⁵² The Jews therefore ^(C)quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”

⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless ^(D)you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. ^54 (E)Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For My flesh is ^[a]food indeed, and My blood is ^[b]drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood ^(F)abides in Me, and I in him.

Institution of the Lord’s Supper^(A)

²³ For ^(B)I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: ^(C)that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; ²⁴ and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ^[a]“Take, eat; this is My body which is ^[b]broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” ²⁵ In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

²⁶ For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death ^(D)till He comes.

Examine Yourself

²⁷ Therefore whoever eats ^(E)this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and ^[c]blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But ^(F)let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. ²⁹ For he who eats and drinks ^[d]in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the ^[e]Lord’s body. ³⁰ For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many ^[f]sleep. ³¹ For ^(G)if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. ³² But when we are judged, ^(H)we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
