²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

^3 (A)You ask and do not receive, ^(B)because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. ^4 [a]Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that ^(C)friendship with the world is enmity with God? ^(D)Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

^19 (A)whose end is destruction, ^(B)whose god is their belly, and ^(C)whose glory is in their shame—^(D)who set their mind on earthly things.

²¹ For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus.

³¹ So ^(A)they come to you as people do, they ^(B)sit before you as My people, and they ^(C)hear your words, but they do not do them; ^(D)for with their mouth they show much love, but ^(E)their hearts pursue their own gain.

^5 [a]useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. ^[b]From ^(A)such withdraw yourself.

¹⁸ For those who are such do not serve our Lord ^[a]Jesus Christ, but ^(A)their own belly, and ^(B)by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

¹⁸ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

²⁰ But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because ^(A)you thought that ^(B)the gift of God could be purchased with money! ²¹ You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your ^(C)heart is not right in the sight of God.

² Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were ^(A)diseased.^[a]
