John 5:17-47
New American Standard Bible
17 But He answered them, “My Father [a]is working until now, and I Myself am working.”
Jesus’ Equality with God
18 For this reason therefore (A)the Jews (B)were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, (C)making Himself equal with God.
19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (D)the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever [b]the Father does, these things the Son also does in the same way. 20 (E)For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him (F)greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and (G)gives them life, so (H)the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but (I)He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. (J)The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and (K)believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and (L)does not come into judgment, but has (M)passed out of death into life.
Two Resurrections
25 Truly, truly, I say to you, [c](N)a time is coming and [d]even now has arrived, when (O)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who (P)hear will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He (Q)gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to (R)execute judgment, because He is [e]the Son of Man. 28 Do not be amazed at this; for [f](S)a time is coming when (T)all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, 29 and will come out: (U)those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the bad deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
30 “(V)I can do nothing [g]on My own. As I hear, I judge; and (W)My judgment is [h]righteous, because I do not seek My own will but (X)the will of Him who sent Me.
31 “(Y)If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not [i]true. 32 There is (Z)another who testifies about Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.
Testimony of John the Baptist
33 You have sent messengers to John, and he (AA)has testified to the truth. 34 But (AB)the testimony I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was (AC)the lamp that was burning and shining, and you (AD)were willing to rejoice for [j]a while in his light.
Testimony of Works
36 But the testimony I have is greater than the testimony of John; for (AE)the works which the Father has given Me (AF)to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father (AG)has sent Me.
Testimony of the Father
37 And the Father who sent Me, (AH)He has testified about Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 Also you do not have (AI)His word remaining in you, because you do not believe Him whom He (AJ)sent.
Testimony of the Scripture
39 [k](AK)You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is (AL)those very Scriptures that testify about Me; 40 and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life. 41 (AM)I do not receive glory from people; 42 but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. 43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not [l]receive Me; (AN)if another comes in his own name, you will [m]receive him. 44 How can you believe, when you [n](AO)accept [o]glory from one another and you do not seek (AP)the [p]glory that is from (AQ)the one and only God? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is (AR)Moses, in whom you have put your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for (AS)he wrote about Me. 47 But (AT)if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

John 5:17-47
New King James Version
17 But Jesus answered them, (A)“My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”
18 Therefore the Jews (B)sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, (C)making Himself equal with God. 19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, (D)the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For (E)the Father loves the Son, and (F)shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, (G)even so the Son gives life to whom He will. 22 For the Father judges no one, but (H)has committed all judgment to the Son, 23 that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. (I)He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
Life and Judgment Are Through the Son
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, (J)he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, (K)but has passed from death into life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when (L)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. 26 For (M)as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have (N)life in Himself, 27 and (O)has given Him authority to execute judgment also, (P)because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will (Q)hear His voice 29 (R)and come forth—(S)those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. 30 (T)I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because (U)I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
The Fourfold Witness
31 (V)“If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not [a]true. 32 (W)There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. 33 You have sent to John, (X)and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. 35 He was the burning and (Y)shining lamp, and (Z)you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. 36 But (AA)I have a greater witness than John’s; for (AB)the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very (AC)works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. 37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, (AD)has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, (AE)nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 (AF)You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and (AG)these are they which testify of Me. 40 (AH)But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
41 (AI)“I do not receive honor from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44 (AJ)How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek (AK)the honor that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; (AL)there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; (AM)for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you (AN)do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”
