16 And for this reason (A)the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. 17 But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.”

18 For this reason therefore (B)the Jews (C)were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, (D)making Himself equal with God.

Jesus Claims to Be the Son of God
16 So the Jewish leaders began harassing[a] Jesus for breaking the Sabbath rules. 17 But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.” 18 So the Jewish leaders tried all the harder to find a way to kill him. For he not only broke the Sabbath, he called God his Father, thereby making himself equal with God.
