John 5:5-9

⁵One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. ⁶When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” ⁷The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” ⁸Jesus said to him, ^(A)“Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” ⁹^(B)And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.

^(C)Now that day was the Sabbath.

Lamentations 3:18-26

¹⁸^(A)so I say, “My endurance has perished;
so has my hope from the Lord.”

¹⁹^(B)Remember my affliction and my wanderings,
    ^(C)the wormwood and ^(D)the gall!
²⁰My soul continually remembers it
    ^(E)and is bowed down within me.
²¹But this I call to mind,
    and ^(F)therefore I have hope:

²²^(G)The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;^[a]
    ^(H)his mercies never come to an end;
²³they are new ^(I)every morning;
    ^(J)great is your faithfulness.
²⁴^(K)“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    ^(L)“therefore I will hope in him.”

²⁵The Lord is good to those who ^(M)wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
²⁶^(N)It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
