Jesus Heals an Official’s Son

⁴³ After the two days^(A) he left for Galilee.

⁸ For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews^[a](A) on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises^(B) made to the patriarchs might be confirmed

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days.

²⁷ “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

²⁸ “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

The Faith of a Canaanite Woman^(A)

²¹ Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.^{(B) 22} A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David,^(C) have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”^(D)

²³ Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

²⁴ He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”^(E)

¹³ Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum,^(A) which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali—

⁴⁶ Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine.^(A) And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum.

⁴² And he brought him to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called^(A) Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter^[a]).^(B)
