³⁸ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

⁷ He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.

⁴² He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead.^{(A) 43} All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”^(B)

¹⁴ Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.^{(A) 15} The two went down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit^{(B) 16} (for as yet the Spirit had not come^[a] upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus).^{(C) 17} Then Peter and John^[b] laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.^(D)

The Fall of Jerusalem

¹⁵ The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place,^(A)

¹¹ inquiring about the time and circumstances^[a] that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings intended for Christ and the subsequent glory.^{(A) 12} It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things that have now been announced to you through those who brought you good news by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look!^(B)

³⁷ That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: ³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.^(A)

Philip Preaches in Samaria

⁴ Now those who were scattered went from place to place proclaiming the word.^{(A) 5} Philip went down to the city^[a] of Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah^[b] to them.^{(B) 6} The crowds with one accord listened eagerly to what was said by Philip, hearing and seeing the signs that he did, ⁷ for unclean spirits, crying with loud shrieks, came out of many who were possessed, and many others who were paralyzed or lame were cured.^{(C) 8} So there was great joy in that city.

⁷ The word of God continued to spread; the number of the disciples increased greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.^(A)

¹⁴ Yet more than ever believers were added to the Lord, great numbers of both men and women,
