²⁹ “Come, see a man ^(A)who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”

¹⁷ The Spirit and ^(A)the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And ^(B)let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the ^(C)water of life without price.

²⁴ But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all, ^25 (A)the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, ^(B)falling on his face, he will worship God and ^(C)declare that God is really among you.

²⁵ The woman said to him, “I know that ^(A)Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, ^(B)he will tell us all things.”

¹⁷ The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; ¹⁸ for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found ^(A)the Messiah” (which means Christ). ⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of ^(B)John. You shall be called ^(C)Cephas” (which means ^(D)Peter^[a]).

Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael

^43 (E)The next day Jesus decided ^(F)to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” ⁴⁴ Now ^(G)Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found ^(H)Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom ^(I)Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus ^(J)of Nazareth, ^(K)the son of Joseph.” ⁴⁶ Nathanael said to him, ^(L)“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, ^(M)an Israelite indeed, ^(N)in whom there is no deceit!” ⁴⁸ Nathanael said to him, “How ^(O)do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, ^(P)“Rabbi, ^(Q)you are the Son of God! You are the ^(R)King of Israel!”

³¹ Yet ^(A)many of the people believed in him. They said, ^(B)“When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?”

²⁶ And here he is, ^(A)speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that ^(B)the authorities really know that this is the Christ?

^23 (A)And all the people were amazed, and said, ^(B)“Can this be the Son of David?”
