²⁶ Jesus said to her, “I am he,^[a] the one who is speaking to you.”^(A)

²⁴ I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he.”^[a](A)

⁶¹ But he was silent and did not answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah,^[a] the Son of the Blessed One?”^{(A) 62} Jesus said, “I am, and

²⁰ Then Isaiah is so bold as to say,

²¹ But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”^(B)

Spiritual Blindness

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had driven him out, and when he found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”^{[a](A) 36} He answered, “And who is he, sir?^[b] Tell me, so that I may believe in him.”^{(B) 37} Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and the one speaking with you is he.”^(C)

³⁰ Indeed, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”^(A)

⁶³ But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I put you under oath before the living God, tell us if you are the Messiah,^[a] the Son of God.”^{(A) 64} Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you,

¹⁵ Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’^[a](A)

²⁰ Then he sternly ordered the disciples not to tell anyone that he was^[a] the Messiah.^[b](A)
