²³ Yet a time is coming and has now come^(A) when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit^(B) and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. ²⁴ God is spirit,^(C) and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

²² Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,^{(A) 23} that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.^(B)

⁶ they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;^{(A) 7} they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.^(B)

⁸ “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. ⁹ And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father,^(C) and he is in heaven. ¹⁰ Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. ¹¹ The greatest among you will be your servant.^{(D) 12} For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.^(E)

⁶ He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

⁸ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”^(B)
