When Yeshua learned that the P’rushim had heard he was making and immersing more talmidim than Yochanan (although it was not Yeshua himself who immersed but his talmidim), Yeshua left Y’hudah and set out again for the Galil. This meant that he had to pass through Shomron.

He came to a town in Shomron called Sh’khem, near the field Ya‘akov had given to his son Yosef. Ya‘akov’s Well was there; so Yeshua, exhausted from his travel, sat down by the well; it was about noon. A woman from Shomron came to draw some water; and Yeshua said to her, “Give me a drink of water.” (His talmidim had gone into town to buy food.) The woman from Shomron said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for water from me, a woman of Shomron?” (For Jews don’t associate with people from Shomron.) 10 Yeshua answered her, “If you knew God’s gift, that is, who it is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink of water,’ then you would have asked him; and he would have given you living water.”

11 She said to him, “Sir, you don’t have a bucket, and the well is deep; so where do you get this ‘living water’? 12 You aren’t greater than our father Ya‘akov, are you? He gave us this well and drank from it, and so did his sons and his cattle.” 13 Yeshua answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I will give him will never be thirsty again! On the contrary, the water I give him will become a spring of water inside him, welling up into eternal life!”

15 “Sir, give me this water,” the woman said to him, “so that I won’t have to be thirsty and keep coming here to draw water.” 16 He said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come back.” 17 She answered, “I don’t have a husband.” Yeshua said to her, “You’re right, you don’t have a husband! 18 You’ve had five husbands in the past, and you’re not married to the man you’re living with now! You’ve spoken the truth!”

19 “Sir, I can see that you are a prophet,” the woman replied. 20 “Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you people say that the place where one has to worship is in Yerushalayim.” 21 Yeshua said, “Lady, believe me, the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Yerushalayim. 22 You people don’t know what you are worshipping; we worship what we do know, because salvation comes from the Jews. 23 But the time is coming — indeed, it’s here now — when the true worshippers will worship the Father spiritually and truly, for these are the kind of people the Father wants worshipping him. 24 God is spirit; and worshippers must worship him spiritually and truly.”

25 The woman replied, “I know that Mashiach is coming” (that is, “the one who has been anointed”). “When he comes, he will tell us everything.” 26 Yeshua said to her, “I, the person speaking to you, am he.”

27 Just then, his talmidim arrived. They were amazed that he was talking with a woman; but none of them said, “What do you want?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water-jar, went back to the town and said to the people there, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I’ve ever done. Could it be that this is the Messiah?” 30 They left the town and began coming toward him.

31 Meanwhile, the talmidim were urging Yeshua, “Rabbi, eat something.” 32 But he answered, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.” 33 At this, the talmidim asked one another, “Could someone have brought him food?” 34 Yeshua said to them, “My food is to do what the one who sent me wants and to bring his work to completion. 35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘Four more months and then the harvest’? Well, what I say to you is: open your eyes and look at the fields! They’re already ripe for harvest! 36 The one who reaps receives his wages and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that the reaper and the sower may be glad together — 37 for in this matter, the proverb, ‘One sows and another reaps,’ holds true. 38 I sent you to reap what you haven’t worked for. Others have done the hard labor, and you have benefited from their work.”

39 Many people from that town in Shomron put their trust in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all the things I did.” 40 So when these people from Shomron came to him, they asked him to stay with them. He stayed two days, 41 and many more came to trust because of what he said. 42 They said to the woman, “We no longer trust because of what you said, because we have heard for ourselves. We know indeed that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

43 After the two days, he went on from there toward the Galil. 44 Now Yeshua himself said, “A prophet is not respected in his own country.” 45 But when he arrived in the Galil, the people there welcomed him, because they had seen all he had done at the festival in Yerushalayim; since they had been there too.

46 He went again to Kanah in the Galil, where he had turned the water into wine. An officer in the royal service was there; his son was ill in K’far-Nachum. 47 This man, on hearing that Yeshua had come from Y’hudah to the Galil, went and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 Yeshua answered, “Unless you people see signs and miracles, you simply will not trust!” 49 The officer said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Yeshua replied, “You may go, your son is alive.” The man believed what Yeshua said and left. 51 As he was going down, his servants met him with the news that his son was alive 52 So he asked them at what time he had gotten better; and they said, “The fever left him yesterday at one o’clock in the afternoon.” 53 The father knew that that was the very hour when Yeshua had told him, “Your son is alive”; and he and all his household trusted. 54 This was a second sign that Yeshua did; he did it after he had come from Y’hudah into the Galil.

Då kom en samaritisk kvinna för att hämta vatten. Jesus sade till henne: "Ge mig att dricka." Hans lärjungar hade gått in i staden för att köpa mat. Den samaritiska kvinnan sade till honom: "Hur kan du som är jude be mig, en samaritisk kvinna, om något att dricka?" - Judarna umgås inte med samariterna.[b] - 10 Jesus svarade henne: "Om du kände till Guds gåva och vem det är som säger till dig: Ge mig att dricka, då skulle du ha bett honom, och han skulle ha gett dig levande vatten." 11 Hon sade: "Herre, inte ens en skopa har du, och brunnen är djup. Varifrån får du då det levande vattnet? 12 Inte är väl du förmer än vår fader Jakob, som gav oss brunnen och själv drack ur den, liksom hans söner och hans boskap?" 13 Jesus svarade henne: "Var och en som dricker av det här vattnet blir törstig igen. 14 Men den som dricker av det vatten jag ger honom skall aldrig någonsin törsta. Det vatten jag ger skall i honom bli en källa, som flödar fram och ger evigt liv." 15 Kvinnan sade till honom: "Herre, ge mig det vattnet, så att jag inte blir törstig och behöver gå hit och hämta vatten."

16 Han sade: "Gå och hämta din man och kom hit!" 17 Kvinnan svarade: "Jag har ingen man." Jesus sade: "Du har rätt när du säger att du inte har någon man. 18 Fem män har du haft, och den du har nu är inte din man. Det du sade är sant." 19 Kvinnan sade: "Herre, jag märker att du är en profet. 20 Våra fäder har tillbett på detta berg,[c] och ni säger att den plats där man skall tillbe finns i Jerusalem." 21 Jesus svarade: "Tro mig, kvinna, den tid kommer, då det varken är på detta berg eller i Jerusalem som ni skall tillbe Fadern. 22 Ni tillber vad ni inte känner. Vi tillber vad vi känner, eftersom frälsningen kommer från judarna. 23 Men den tid kommer, ja, den är redan här, då sanna tillbedjare skall tillbe Fadern i ande och sanning. Ty sådana tillbedjare vill Fadern ha. 24 Gud är ande, och de som tillber honom måste tillbe i ande och sanning." 25 Kvinnan sade till honom: "Jag vet att Messias skall komma, han som kallas Kristus. När han kommer, skall han förkunna allt för oss." 26 Jesus sade till henne: "Det Är Jag,[d] den som talar med dig." 27 Just då kom hans lärjungar, och de blev förvånade över att han talade med en kvinna, men ingen frågade vad han ville henne eller varför han talade med henne. 28 Kvinnan lät sin kruka stå och gick in i staden och sade till folket: 29 "Kom och se en man som har sagt mig allt vad jag har gjort. Han kanske är Messias." 30 Då gick de ut ur staden och kom till honom.

31 Under tiden bad lärjungarna honom: "Rabbi, ät." 32 Men han sade till dem: "Jag har mat att äta som ni inte känner till." 33 Lärjungarna sade till varandra: "Inte kan väl någon ha kommit med mat till honom?" 34 Jesus sade: "Min mat är att göra hans vilja som har sänt mig och att fullborda hans verk. 35 Säger ni inte att det ännu är fyra månader kvar till skörden? Men se, jag säger er: Lyft blicken och se hur fälten har vitnat till skörd. 36 Redan nu får den som skördar sin lön. Han samlar in frukt till evigt liv, så att den som sår och den som skördar kan glädja sig på samma gång. 37 Ändå är det ordet sant, att en sår och en annan skördar. 38 Jag har sänt er att skörda där ni inte har arbetat. Andra har arbetat, och ni har gått in i deras arbete."

39 Många samariter från den staden kom till tro på honom genom kvinnans ord, då hon vittnade: "Han har sagt mig allt vad jag har gjort." 40 När samariterna kom till honom, bad de att han skulle stanna kvar hos dem, och han stannade där två dagar. 41 Och många fler kom till tro på grund av hans ord, 42 och de sade till kvinnan: "Nu tror vi inte längre bara för dina ords skull. Vi har själva hört honom och vet att han verkligen är världens Frälsare."

Jesus botar en kunglig tjänares son

43 Efter dessa två dagar gick Jesus därifrån till Galileen. 44 Han hade själv vittnat om att en profet inte blir erkänd i sin hemtrakt. 45 När han nu kom till Galileen, tog galileerna emot honom, eftersom de hade sett allt som han hade gjort i Jerusalem vid högtiden. De hade själva varit där.

46 Så kom han tillbaka till Kana i Galileen, där han hade gjort vattnet till vin. En man i kunglig tjänst hade en son som låg sjuk i Kapernaum. 47 När han hörde att Jesus hade kommit från Judeen till Galileen, gick han till honom och bad att han skulle komma ner och bota hans son som låg för döden. 48 Jesus sade till honom: "Om ni inte ser tecken och under, tror ni inte." 49 Mannen sade till honom: "Herre, kom ner innan mitt barn dör!" 50 Jesus svarade: "Gå, din son lever." Då trodde mannen det ord som Jesus sade till honom och gick. 51 Och medan han ännu var på väg, möttes han av sina tjänare som sade att hans son levde. 52 Han frågade vid vilken timme han hade blivit bättre. De svarade: "I går vid sjunde timmen lämnade febern honom." 53 Då förstod fadern att det hade hänt just den timme då Jesus hade sagt till honom: "Din son lever." Och han själv och hela hans familj[e] kom till tro. 54 Detta var det andra tecknet som Jesus gjorde sedan han hade kommit från Judeen till Galileen.

Therefore when Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach knew that the Perushim heard that he makes more talmidim and administers the tevilah of teshuva to more talmidim than Yochanan,

Although Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach himself did not personally administer the mikveh mayim’s tevilah—this was administered by his talmidim,

Then Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach left the land of Yehudah and departed again into the Galil.

And it was necessary for him to pass through Shomron.

Therefore, he comes into a city of Shomron being called Sh’khem near the field which Ya’akov Avinu had given to Yosef Ben Ya’akov. [Gn 33:19; 48:22; Josh 24:32]

Now a be’er (well) of Ya’akov was there. Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, having become weary from his journey was sitting there at the be’er. The sha’ah (hour, time) was about hashishit (the sixth, noon).

An isha of Shomron comes to draw mayim. Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Give me a drink.

For Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach’s talmidim had gone away into the city that they might buy okhel.

Therefore, the isha of Shomron says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, How can you, being a Yehudi, ask to be given a drink from me, an isha (woman) from Shomron (Samaria)? (For those who are Yehudim do not associate with those of Shomron) [EZRA 4:3-6; 9:1-10:44].

10 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to her, If you knew the matanah (gift) of Hashem and who it is saying to you, Give me a drink, [BERESHIS 26:19] you would have asked him and he would have given you Mayim Chayyim (Living Water). [YESHAYAH 44:3; 55:1; YIRMEYAH 2:13; 17:13; ZECHARYAH 14:8].

11 The isha (woman) says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, you have no bucket and the be’er is deep. From where then do you have the Mayim Chayyim? [BERESHIS 21:19]

12 Surely you are not greater than Ya’akov Avinu who gave the matanah to us of the be’er (well) and drank from it himself as did his banim (sons) and his tzon (flock)?

13 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said, Everyone drinking from this mayim (water) will thirst again,

14 But whoever drinks of the mayim (water) which I will give to him will never thirst again, but the mayim (water) which I will give him will become in him a makor (fountain, TEHILLIM 36:10 [9]) of mayim (water, YESHAYAH 12:3; 58:11) springing up unto Chayyei Olam.

15 The isha (woman) says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, give me this mayim that I may not thirst nor come here to draw mayim.

16 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Go, call your ba’al (husband), and come back here.

17 In reply, the isha (woman) said to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, I do not have a ba’al. He says to her, Well you spoke, I do not have a ba’al.

18 For beetzem (in fact) chamisha be’alim (five husbands) you had, and the one you have now is not your ba’al (husband). What you have said is emes. [MELACHIM BAIS 17:24; HOSHEA 2:7]

19 The isha says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, I see that you are a navi.

20 Avoteinu on this mountain (Gerizim) worshiped [DEVARIM 11:29; 27:12; YEHOSHUA 8:33] and you say that in Yerushalayim is the place where it is necessary to worship. [DEVARIM 12:5-14; TEHILLIM 122:1-5]

21 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Have emunah (faith), believe me, Isha. A sha’ah (hour, time) comes when neither on this mountain nor in Yerushalayim [Mal 1:11; 1Kg 8:27; Isa 66:1] will you worship HaAv. [Isa 63:16]

22 You worship that of which you do not have da’as [MELACHIM BAIS 17:28-41]; we worship that of which we have da’as, because Yeshu’at Eloheinu (salvation) is from the Yehudim [Isa 2:3; Ro 9:3].

23 But a sha’ah is coming, and now is, when those of the true avodas kodesh will worship HaAv in the Ruach Hakodesh and in Emes, for indeed [Elohim] HaAv is seeking such to worship Him.

24 Hashem is Ruach (Spirit) and it is necessary for the ones worshiping Him to worship in Ruach and Emes. [Ezek 36:26-27; 37:14]

25 The isha says to him, I have da’as that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach is coming, the one being called the Messiah. When Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach comes, he will proclaim to us everything.

26 Yehoshua says to her, Ani Hu (I am He), the one speaking to you.

27 And at this very moment, the Moshiach’s talmidim arrived, and they were marveling that he was speaking with an isha. No one said, however, What are you seeking? Or, Why do you speak with her?

28 Therefore, the isha left her waterpot and went away into the city and says to the bnei Adam of the city,

29 Come, see an ish who told me everything I have ever done. Surely this one is Moshiach, is he not?

30 They came out of the city and were coming to him.

31 Divaile (meanwhile), Moshiach’s talmidim were asking him, Rebbe, eat.

32 But Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to them, I have okhel (food) to eat [IYOV 23:12] of which you have no da’as.

33 Therefore, Moshiach’s talmidim were saying to one another, Surely no one brought him anything to eat?

34 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to them, My okhel (food) is that I may do the ratzon (will) of the One having sent me and may complete ma’aseh HaElohim [his work, KOHELET 11:5].

35 Do not say, Yet arba’ah chodashim (four months) and then comes the katzir (harvest). Hinei, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and see the sadot (fields) that they are white for the katzir (harvest).

36 The one harvesting receives wages and gathers p’ri (fruit) unto Chayyei Olam, that the one sowing and the other one harvesting may have simcha together.

37 For in this the saying is true, One sows and another reaps. [Job 31: 8; Mic 6:15]

38 I sent you to harvest that upon which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.

39 And from that city of Shomron many had emunah in him, because of the solemn dvar of the isha giving edut: He told me everything I have ever done.

40 Then when those of Shomron came to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, they were asking him to remain with them, and he remained with them there two yamim.

41 And many more put their emunah [in Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach], because of his dvar (word).

42 And to the isha they were saying, No longer because of what you spoke do we have emunah (faith), for we ourselves have heard and we have da’as that his one is be’emes the Moshi’a HaOlam (the Savior, Go’el HaOlam).

43 And after two yamim (days), he went out from there into the Galil.

44 For Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach himself gave solemn edut (testimony) that a Navi does not have kavod (honor) in his own country.

45 Therefore, when he came into the Galil, those of the Galil received Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, vi-bahlt (since) they had seen all which he did in Yerushalayim during the Chag, for they also went to the Chag.

46 Then Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach came again into Kanah of the Galil where he made the mayim (water) into yayin (wine). There was a certain royal official whose ben was choleh (ill) in K’far-Nachum.

47 This man, having heard that Yehoshua comes from the land of Yehudah into the Galil, went to him and was asking him to come down and cure the ben of him. For the yeled was about to die.

48 Therefore, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Except you see otot (miraculous signs) and moftim (wonders), you will never have emunah (faith). [DANIEL 4:2-3,37]

49 The royal official says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, come down before my yeled dies.

50 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to him, Go! Bincha chai (your son lives)! [MELACHIM ALEF 17:23] The man had emunah (faith) in the dvar that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach had said to him, and the man departed.

51 And as the man was going, his avadim met him, saying that the man’s yeled lives.

52 Therefore, the man inquired from them the sha’ah (hour, time) in which the yeled began to recover. Then they said to him, Etmol (yesterday) at the sha’ah hashevi’it (seventh hour) the fever left him.

53 Therefore, the abba knew that it was the same sha’ah (hour, time) in which Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Bincha chai! And the man had emunah and all his bais.

54 Now this was ot hasheni (the second miraculous sign) that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach did after having come from the land of Yehudah to the Galil.

An officer in the royal service was there; his son was ill in K’far-Nachum. 47 This man, on hearing that Yeshua had come from Y’hudah to the Galil, went and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 Yeshua answered, “Unless you people see signs and miracles, you simply will not trust!” 49 The officer said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Yeshua replied, “You may go, your son is alive.” The man believed what Yeshua said and left. 51 As he was going down, his servants met him with the news that his son was alive 52 So he asked them at what time he had gotten better; and they said, “The fever left him yesterday at one o’clock in the afternoon.” 53 The father knew that that was the very hour when Yeshua had told him, “Your son is alive”; and he and all his household trusted. 54 This was a second sign that Yeshua did; he did it after he had come from Y’hudah into the Galil.

Varifrån får du då det levande vattnet? 12 Inte är väl du förmer än vår fader Jakob, som gav oss brunnen och själv drack ur den, liksom hans söner och hans boskap?" 13 Jesus svarade henne: "Var och en som dricker av det här vattnet blir törstig igen. 14 Men den som dricker av det vatten jag ger honom skall aldrig någonsin törsta. Det vatten jag ger skall i honom bli en källa, som flödar fram och ger evigt liv." 15 Kvinnan sade till honom: "Herre, ge mig det vattnet, så att jag inte blir törstig och behöver gå hit och hämta vatten."

16 Han sade: "Gå och hämta din man och kom hit!" 17 Kvinnan svarade: "Jag har ingen man." Jesus sade: "Du har rätt när du säger att du inte har någon man. 18 Fem män har du haft, och den du har nu är inte din man. Det du sade är sant." 19 Kvinnan sade: "Herre, jag märker att du är en profet. 20 Våra fäder har tillbett på detta berg,[c] och ni säger att den plats där man skall tillbe finns i Jerusalem." 21 Jesus svarade: "Tro mig, kvinna, den tid kommer, då det varken är på detta berg eller i Jerusalem som ni skall tillbe Fadern. 22 Ni tillber vad ni inte känner. Vi tillber vad vi känner, eftersom frälsningen kommer från judarna. 23 Men den tid kommer, ja, den är redan här, då sanna tillbedjare skall tillbe Fadern i ande och sanning. Ty sådana tillbedjare vill Fadern ha. 24 Gud är ande, och de som tillber honom måste tillbe i ande och sanning." 25 Kvinnan sade till honom: "Jag vet att Messias skall komma, han som kallas Kristus. När han kommer, skall han förkunna allt för oss." 26 Jesus sade till henne: "Det Är Jag,[d] den som talar med dig." 27 Just då kom hans lärjungar, och de blev förvånade över att han talade med en kvinna, men ingen frågade vad han ville henne eller varför han talade med henne. 28 Kvinnan lät sin kruka stå och gick in i staden och sade till folket: 29 "Kom och se en man som har sagt mig allt vad jag har gjort. Han kanske är Messias." 30 Då gick de ut ur staden och kom till honom.

31 Under tiden bad lärjungarna honom: "Rabbi, ät." 32 Men han sade till dem: "Jag har mat att äta som ni inte känner till." 33 Lärjungarna sade till varandra: "Inte kan väl någon ha kommit med mat till honom?" 34 Jesus sade: "Min mat är att göra hans vilja som har sänt mig och att fullborda hans verk. 35 Säger ni inte att det ännu är fyra månader kvar till skörden? Men se, jag säger er: Lyft blicken och se hur fälten har vitnat till skörd. 36 Redan nu får den som skördar sin lön. Han samlar in frukt till evigt liv, så att den som sår och den som skördar kan glädja sig på samma gång. 37 Ändå är det ordet sant, att en sår och en annan skördar. 38 Jag har sänt er att skörda där ni inte har arbetat. Andra har arbetat, och ni har gått in i deras arbete."

39 Många samariter från den staden kom till tro på honom genom kvinnans ord, då hon vittnade: "Han har sagt mig allt vad jag har gjort." 40 När samariterna kom till honom, bad de att han skulle stanna kvar hos dem, och han stannade där två dagar. 41 Och många fler kom till tro på grund av hans ord, 42 och de sade till kvinnan: "Nu tror vi inte längre bara för dina ords skull. Vi har själva hört honom och vet att han verkligen är världens Frälsare."

Jesus botar en kunglig tjänares son

43 Efter dessa två dagar gick Jesus därifrån till Galileen. 44 Han hade själv vittnat om att en profet inte blir erkänd i sin hemtrakt. 45 När han nu kom till Galileen, tog galileerna emot honom, eftersom de hade sett allt som han hade gjort i Jerusalem vid högtiden. De hade själva varit där.

46 Så kom han tillbaka till Kana i Galileen, där han hade gjort vattnet till vin. En man i kunglig tjänst hade en son som låg sjuk i Kapernaum. 47 När han hörde att Jesus hade kommit från Judeen till Galileen, gick han till honom och bad att han skulle komma ner och bota hans son som låg för döden. 48 Jesus sade till honom: "Om ni inte ser tecken och under, tror ni inte." 49 Mannen sade till honom: "Herre, kom ner innan mitt barn dör!" 50 Jesus svarade: "Gå, din son lever." Då trodde mannen det ord som Jesus sade till honom och gick. 51 Och medan han ännu var på väg, möttes han av sina tjänare som sade att hans son levde. 52 Han frågade vid vilken timme han hade blivit bättre. De svarade: "I går vid sjunde timmen lämnade febern honom." 53 Då förstod fadern att det hade hänt just den timme då Jesus hade sagt till honom: "Din son lever." Och han själv och hela hans familj[e] kom till tro. 54 Detta var det andra tecknet som Jesus gjorde sedan han hade kommit från Judeen till Galileen.

Therefore when Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach knew that the Perushim heard that he makes more talmidim and administers the tevilah of teshuva to more talmidim than Yochanan,

Although Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach himself did not personally administer the mikveh mayim’s tevilah—this was administered by his talmidim,

Then Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach left the land of Yehudah and departed again into the Galil.

And it was necessary for him to pass through Shomron.

Therefore, he comes into a city of Shomron being called Sh’khem near the field which Ya’akov Avinu had given to Yosef Ben Ya’akov. [Gn 33:19; 48:22; Josh 24:32]

Now a be’er (well) of Ya’akov was there. Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, having become weary from his journey was sitting there at the be’er. The sha’ah (hour, time) was about hashishit (the sixth, noon).

An isha of Shomron comes to draw mayim. Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Give me a drink.

For Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach’s talmidim had gone away into the city that they might buy okhel.

Therefore, the isha of Shomron says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, How can you, being a Yehudi, ask to be given a drink from me, an isha (woman) from Shomron (Samaria)? (For those who are Yehudim do not associate with those of Shomron) [EZRA 4:3-6; 9:1-10:44].

10 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to her, If you knew the matanah (gift) of Hashem and who it is saying to you, Give me a drink, [BERESHIS 26:19] you would have asked him and he would have given you Mayim Chayyim (Living Water). [YESHAYAH 44:3; 55:1; YIRMEYAH 2:13; 17:13; ZECHARYAH 14:8].

11 The isha (woman) says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, you have no bucket and the be’er is deep. From where then do you have the Mayim Chayyim? [BERESHIS 21:19]

12 Surely you are not greater than Ya’akov Avinu who gave the matanah to us of the be’er (well) and drank from it himself as did his banim (sons) and his tzon (flock)?

13 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said, Everyone drinking from this mayim (water) will thirst again,

14 But whoever drinks of the mayim (water) which I will give to him will never thirst again, but the mayim (water) which I will give him will become in him a makor (fountain, TEHILLIM 36:10 [9]) of mayim (water, YESHAYAH 12:3; 58:11) springing up unto Chayyei Olam.

15 The isha (woman) says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, give me this mayim that I may not thirst nor come here to draw mayim.

16 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Go, call your ba’al (husband), and come back here.

17 In reply, the isha (woman) said to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, I do not have a ba’al. He says to her, Well you spoke, I do not have a ba’al.

18 For beetzem (in fact) chamisha be’alim (five husbands) you had, and the one you have now is not your ba’al (husband). What you have said is emes. [MELACHIM BAIS 17:24; HOSHEA 2:7]

19 The isha says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, I see that you are a navi.

20 Avoteinu on this mountain (Gerizim) worshiped [DEVARIM 11:29; 27:12; YEHOSHUA 8:33] and you say that in Yerushalayim is the place where it is necessary to worship. [DEVARIM 12:5-14; TEHILLIM 122:1-5]

21 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Have emunah (faith), believe me, Isha. A sha’ah (hour, time) comes when neither on this mountain nor in Yerushalayim [Mal 1:11; 1Kg 8:27; Isa 66:1] will you worship HaAv. [Isa 63:16]

22 You worship that of which you do not have da’as [MELACHIM BAIS 17:28-41]; we worship that of which we have da’as, because Yeshu’at Eloheinu (salvation) is from the Yehudim [Isa 2:3; Ro 9:3].

23 But a sha’ah is coming, and now is, when those of the true avodas kodesh will worship HaAv in the Ruach Hakodesh and in Emes, for indeed [Elohim] HaAv is seeking such to worship Him.

24 Hashem is Ruach (Spirit) and it is necessary for the ones worshiping Him to worship in Ruach and Emes. [Ezek 36:26-27; 37:14]

25 The isha says to him, I have da’as that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach is coming, the one being called the Messiah. When Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach comes, he will proclaim to us everything.

26 Yehoshua says to her, Ani Hu (I am He), the one speaking to you.

27 And at this very moment, the Moshiach’s talmidim arrived, and they were marveling that he was speaking with an isha. No one said, however, What are you seeking? Or, Why do you speak with her?

28 Therefore, the isha left her waterpot and went away into the city and says to the bnei Adam of the city,

29 Come, see an ish who told me everything I have ever done. Surely this one is Moshiach, is he not?

30 They came out of the city and were coming to him.

31 Divaile (meanwhile), Moshiach’s talmidim were asking him, Rebbe, eat.

32 But Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to them, I have okhel (food) to eat [IYOV 23:12] of which you have no da’as.

33 Therefore, Moshiach’s talmidim were saying to one another, Surely no one brought him anything to eat?

34 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to them, My okhel (food) is that I may do the ratzon (will) of the One having sent me and may complete ma’aseh HaElohim [his work, KOHELET 11:5].

35 Do not say, Yet arba’ah chodashim (four months) and then comes the katzir (harvest). Hinei, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and see the sadot (fields) that they are white for the katzir (harvest).

36 The one harvesting receives wages and gathers p’ri (fruit) unto Chayyei Olam, that the one sowing and the other one harvesting may have simcha together.

37 For in this the saying is true, One sows and another reaps. [Job 31: 8; Mic 6:15]

38 I sent you to harvest that upon which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.

39 And from that city of Shomron many had emunah in him, because of the solemn dvar of the isha giving edut: He told me everything I have ever done.

40 Then when those of Shomron came to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, they were asking him to remain with them, and he remained with them there two yamim.

41 And many more put their emunah [in Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach], because of his dvar (word).

42 And to the isha they were saying, No longer because of what you spoke do we have emunah (faith), for we ourselves have heard and we have da’as that his one is be’emes the Moshi’a HaOlam (the Savior, Go’el HaOlam).

43 And after two yamim (days), he went out from there into the Galil.

44 For Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach himself gave solemn edut (testimony) that a Navi does not have kavod (honor) in his own country.

45 Therefore, when he came into the Galil, those of the Galil received Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, vi-bahlt (since) they had seen all which he did in Yerushalayim during the Chag, for they also went to the Chag.

46 Then Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach came again into Kanah of the Galil where he made the mayim (water) into yayin (wine). There was a certain royal official whose ben was choleh (ill) in K’far-Nachum.

47 This man, having heard that Yehoshua comes from the land of Yehudah into the Galil, went to him and was asking him to come down and cure the ben of him. For the yeled was about to die.

48 Therefore, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Except you see otot (miraculous signs) and moftim (wonders), you will never have emunah (faith). [DANIEL 4:2-3,37]

49 The royal official says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, come down before my yeled dies.

50 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to him, Go! Bincha chai (your son lives)! [MELACHIM ALEF 17:23] The man had emunah (faith) in the dvar that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach had said to him, and the man departed.

51 And as the man was going, his avadim met him, saying that the man’s yeled lives.

52 Therefore, the man inquired from them the sha’ah (hour, time) in which the yeled began to recover. Then they said to him, Etmol (yesterday) at the sha’ah hashevi’it (seventh hour) the fever left him.

53 Therefore, the abba knew that it was the same sha’ah (hour, time) in which Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Bincha chai! And the man had emunah and all his bais.

54 Now this was ot hasheni (the second miraculous sign) that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach did after having come from the land of Yehudah to the Galil.

When Yeshua learned that the P’rushim had heard he was making and immersing more talmidim than Yochanan (although it was not Yeshua himself who immersed but his talmidim), Yeshua left Y’hudah and set out again for the Galil. This meant that he had to pass through Shomron.

He came to a town in Shomron called Sh’khem, near the field Ya‘akov had given to his son Yosef. Ya‘akov’s Well was there; so Yeshua, exhausted from his travel, sat down by the well; it was about noon. A woman from Shomron came to draw some water; and Yeshua said to her, “Give me a drink of water.” (His talmidim had gone into town to buy food.) The woman from Shomron said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for water from me, a woman of Shomron?” (For Jews don’t associate with people from Shomron.) 10 Yeshua answered her, “If you knew God’s gift, that is, who it is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink of water,’ then you would have asked him; and he would have given you living water.”

11 She said to him, “Sir, you don’t have a bucket, and the well is deep; so where do you get this ‘living water’? 12 You aren’t greater than our father Ya‘akov, are you? He gave us this well and drank from it, and so did his sons and his cattle.” 13 Yeshua answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I will give him will never be thirsty again! On the contrary, the water I give him will become a spring of water inside him, welling up into eternal life!”

15 “Sir, give me this water,” the woman said to him, “so that I won’t have to be thirsty and keep coming here to draw water.” 16 He said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come back.” 17 She answered, “I don’t have a husband.” Yeshua said to her, “You’re right, you don’t have a husband! 18 You’ve had five husbands in the past, and you’re not married to the man you’re living with now! You’ve spoken the truth!”

19 “Sir, I can see that you are a prophet,” the woman replied. 20 “Our fathers worshipped on this mountain, but you people say that the place where one has to worship is in Yerushalayim.” 21 Yeshua said, “Lady, believe me, the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Yerushalayim. 22 You people don’t know what you are worshipping; we worship what we do know, because salvation comes from the Jews. 23 But the time is coming — indeed, it’s here now — when the true worshippers will worship the Father spiritually and truly, for these are the kind of people the Father wants worshipping him. 24 God is spirit; and worshippers must worship him spiritually and truly.”

25 The woman replied, “I know that Mashiach is coming” (that is, “the one who has been anointed”). “When he comes, he will tell us everything.” 26 Yeshua said to her, “I, the person speaking to you, am he.”

27 Just then, his talmidim arrived. They were amazed that he was talking with a woman; but none of them said, “What do you want?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water-jar, went back to the town and said to the people there, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I’ve ever done. Could it be that this is the Messiah?” 30 They left the town and began coming toward him.

31 Meanwhile, the talmidim were urging Yeshua, “Rabbi, eat something.” 32 But he answered, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.” 33 At this, the talmidim asked one another, “Could someone have brought him food?” 34 Yeshua said to them, “My food is to do what the one who sent me wants and to bring his work to completion. 35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘Four more months and then the harvest’? Well, what I say to you is: open your eyes and look at the fields! They’re already ripe for harvest! 36 The one who reaps receives his wages and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that the reaper and the sower may be glad together — 37 for in this matter, the proverb, ‘One sows and another reaps,’ holds true. 38 I sent you to reap what you haven’t worked for. Others have done the hard labor, and you have benefited from their work.”

39 Many people from that town in Shomron put their trust in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all the things I did.” 40 So when these people from Shomron came to him, they asked him to stay with them. He stayed two days, 41 and many more came to trust because of what he said. 42 They said to the woman, “We no longer trust because of what you said, because we have heard for ourselves. We know indeed that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

43 After the two days, he went on from there toward the Galil. 44 Now Yeshua himself said, “A prophet is not respected in his own country.” 45 But when he arrived in the Galil, the people there welcomed him, because they had seen all he had done at the festival in Yerushalayim; since they had been there too.

39 Många samariter från den staden kom till tro på honom genom kvinnans ord, då hon vittnade: "Han har sagt mig allt vad jag har gjort." 40 När samariterna kom till honom, bad de att han skulle stanna kvar hos dem, och han stannade där två dagar. 41 Och många fler kom till tro på grund av hans ord, 42 och de sade till kvinnan: "Nu tror vi inte längre bara för dina ords skull. Vi har själva hört honom och vet att han verkligen är världens Frälsare."

Jesus botar en kunglig tjänares son

43 Efter dessa två dagar gick Jesus därifrån till Galileen. 44 Han hade själv vittnat om att en profet inte blir erkänd i sin hemtrakt. 45 När han nu kom till Galileen, tog galileerna emot honom, eftersom de hade sett allt som han hade gjort i Jerusalem vid högtiden. De hade själva varit där.

46 Så kom han tillbaka till Kana i Galileen, där han hade gjort vattnet till vin. En man i kunglig tjänst hade en son som låg sjuk i Kapernaum. 47 När han hörde att Jesus hade kommit från Judeen till Galileen, gick han till honom och bad att han skulle komma ner och bota hans son som låg för döden. 48 Jesus sade till honom: "Om ni inte ser tecken och under, tror ni inte." 49 Mannen sade till honom: "Herre, kom ner innan mitt barn dör!" 50 Jesus svarade: "Gå, din son lever." Då trodde mannen det ord som Jesus sade till honom och gick. 51 Och medan han ännu var på väg, möttes han av sina tjänare som sade att hans son levde. 52 Han frågade vid vilken timme han hade blivit bättre. De svarade: "I går vid sjunde timmen lämnade febern honom." 53 Då förstod fadern att det hade hänt just den timme då Jesus hade sagt till honom: "Din son lever." Och han själv och hela hans familj[e] kom till tro. 54 Detta var det andra tecknet som Jesus gjorde sedan han hade kommit från Judeen till Galileen.

Therefore when Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach knew that the Perushim heard that he makes more talmidim and administers the tevilah of teshuva to more talmidim than Yochanan,

Although Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach himself did not personally administer the mikveh mayim’s tevilah—this was administered by his talmidim,

Then Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach left the land of Yehudah and departed again into the Galil.

And it was necessary for him to pass through Shomron.

Therefore, he comes into a city of Shomron being called Sh’khem near the field which Ya’akov Avinu had given to Yosef Ben Ya’akov. [Gn 33:19; 48:22; Josh 24:32]

Now a be’er (well) of Ya’akov was there. Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, having become weary from his journey was sitting there at the be’er. The sha’ah (hour, time) was about hashishit (the sixth, noon).

An isha of Shomron comes to draw mayim. Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Give me a drink.

For Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach’s talmidim had gone away into the city that they might buy okhel.

Therefore, the isha of Shomron says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, How can you, being a Yehudi, ask to be given a drink from me, an isha (woman) from Shomron (Samaria)? (For those who are Yehudim do not associate with those of Shomron) [EZRA 4:3-6; 9:1-10:44].

10 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to her, If you knew the matanah (gift) of Hashem and who it is saying to you, Give me a drink, [BERESHIS 26:19] you would have asked him and he would have given you Mayim Chayyim (Living Water). [YESHAYAH 44:3; 55:1; YIRMEYAH 2:13; 17:13; ZECHARYAH 14:8].

11 The isha (woman) says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, you have no bucket and the be’er is deep. From where then do you have the Mayim Chayyim? [BERESHIS 21:19]

12 Surely you are not greater than Ya’akov Avinu who gave the matanah to us of the be’er (well) and drank from it himself as did his banim (sons) and his tzon (flock)?

13 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said, Everyone drinking from this mayim (water) will thirst again,

14 But whoever drinks of the mayim (water) which I will give to him will never thirst again, but the mayim (water) which I will give him will become in him a makor (fountain, TEHILLIM 36:10 [9]) of mayim (water, YESHAYAH 12:3; 58:11) springing up unto Chayyei Olam.

15 The isha (woman) says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, give me this mayim that I may not thirst nor come here to draw mayim.

16 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Go, call your ba’al (husband), and come back here.

17 In reply, the isha (woman) said to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, I do not have a ba’al. He says to her, Well you spoke, I do not have a ba’al.

18 For beetzem (in fact) chamisha be’alim (five husbands) you had, and the one you have now is not your ba’al (husband). What you have said is emes. [MELACHIM BAIS 17:24; HOSHEA 2:7]

19 The isha says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, I see that you are a navi.

20 Avoteinu on this mountain (Gerizim) worshiped [DEVARIM 11:29; 27:12; YEHOSHUA 8:33] and you say that in Yerushalayim is the place where it is necessary to worship. [DEVARIM 12:5-14; TEHILLIM 122:1-5]

21 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to her, Have emunah (faith), believe me, Isha. A sha’ah (hour, time) comes when neither on this mountain nor in Yerushalayim [Mal 1:11; 1Kg 8:27; Isa 66:1] will you worship HaAv. [Isa 63:16]

22 You worship that of which you do not have da’as [MELACHIM BAIS 17:28-41]; we worship that of which we have da’as, because Yeshu’at Eloheinu (salvation) is from the Yehudim [Isa 2:3; Ro 9:3].

23 But a sha’ah is coming, and now is, when those of the true avodas kodesh will worship HaAv in the Ruach Hakodesh and in Emes, for indeed [Elohim] HaAv is seeking such to worship Him.

24 Hashem is Ruach (Spirit) and it is necessary for the ones worshiping Him to worship in Ruach and Emes. [Ezek 36:26-27; 37:14]

25 The isha says to him, I have da’as that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach is coming, the one being called the Messiah. When Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach comes, he will proclaim to us everything.

26 Yehoshua says to her, Ani Hu (I am He), the one speaking to you.

27 And at this very moment, the Moshiach’s talmidim arrived, and they were marveling that he was speaking with an isha. No one said, however, What are you seeking? Or, Why do you speak with her?

28 Therefore, the isha left her waterpot and went away into the city and says to the bnei Adam of the city,

29 Come, see an ish who told me everything I have ever done. Surely this one is Moshiach, is he not?

30 They came out of the city and were coming to him.

31 Divaile (meanwhile), Moshiach’s talmidim were asking him, Rebbe, eat.

32 But Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to them, I have okhel (food) to eat [IYOV 23:12] of which you have no da’as.

33 Therefore, Moshiach’s talmidim were saying to one another, Surely no one brought him anything to eat?

34 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to them, My okhel (food) is that I may do the ratzon (will) of the One having sent me and may complete ma’aseh HaElohim [his work, KOHELET 11:5].

35 Do not say, Yet arba’ah chodashim (four months) and then comes the katzir (harvest). Hinei, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and see the sadot (fields) that they are white for the katzir (harvest).

36 The one harvesting receives wages and gathers p’ri (fruit) unto Chayyei Olam, that the one sowing and the other one harvesting may have simcha together.

37 For in this the saying is true, One sows and another reaps. [Job 31: 8; Mic 6:15]

38 I sent you to harvest that upon which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.

39 And from that city of Shomron many had emunah in him, because of the solemn dvar of the isha giving edut: He told me everything I have ever done.

40 Then when those of Shomron came to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, they were asking him to remain with them, and he remained with them there two yamim.

41 And many more put their emunah [in Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach], because of his dvar (word).

42 And to the isha they were saying, No longer because of what you spoke do we have emunah (faith), for we ourselves have heard and we have da’as that his one is be’emes the Moshi’a HaOlam (the Savior, Go’el HaOlam).

43 And after two yamim (days), he went out from there into the Galil.

44 For Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach himself gave solemn edut (testimony) that a Navi does not have kavod (honor) in his own country.

45 Therefore, when he came into the Galil, those of the Galil received Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, vi-bahlt (since) they had seen all which he did in Yerushalayim during the Chag, for they also went to the Chag.

46 Then Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach came again into Kanah of the Galil where he made the mayim (water) into yayin (wine). There was a certain royal official whose ben was choleh (ill) in K’far-Nachum.

47 This man, having heard that Yehoshua comes from the land of Yehudah into the Galil, went to him and was asking him to come down and cure the ben of him. For the yeled was about to die.

48 Therefore, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Except you see otot (miraculous signs) and moftim (wonders), you will never have emunah (faith). [DANIEL 4:2-3,37]

49 The royal official says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, come down before my yeled dies.

50 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to him, Go! Bincha chai (your son lives)! [MELACHIM ALEF 17:23] The man had emunah (faith) in the dvar that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach had said to him, and the man departed.

51 And as the man was going, his avadim met him, saying that the man’s yeled lives.

52 Therefore, the man inquired from them the sha’ah (hour, time) in which the yeled began to recover. Then they said to him, Etmol (yesterday) at the sha’ah hashevi’it (seventh hour) the fever left him.

53 Therefore, the abba knew that it was the same sha’ah (hour, time) in which Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to him, Bincha chai! And the man had emunah and all his bais.

54 Now this was ot hasheni (the second miraculous sign) that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach did after having come from the land of Yehudah to the Galil.
