¹⁶ “For God so ^(A)loved the world, that He ^(B)gave His ^[a](C)only begotten Son, that whoever ^(D)believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God ^(E)did not send the Son into the world ^(F)to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

²⁵ whom God displayed publicly as ^(A)a ^[a]propitiation ^[b](B)in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, ^[c]because in the ^(C)forbearance of God He ^(D)passed over the sins previously committed; ²⁶ for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who ^[d]has faith in Jesus.

⁸ For I say that Christ has become a servant to ^(A)the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm ^(B)the promises given to the fathers, ⁹ and for ^(C)the Gentiles to ^(D)glorify God for His mercy; as it is written,

¹⁷ “Do not think that I came to abolish the ^(A)Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

Jesus Foretells His Death

²⁷ “^(A)Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘^(B)Father, save Me from ^(C)this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

^4 (A)I glorified You on the earth, ^[a](B)having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.

³⁷ Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “^(A)You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, ^(B)to testify to the truth. ^(C)Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

³⁸ He *said to them, “Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may ^[a]preach there also; for that is what I came for.”

³⁹ And Jesus said, “^(A)For judgment I came into this world, so that ^(B)those who do not see may see, and that ^(C)those who see may become blind.”
