You Must Be Born Again
3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named (A)Nicodemus, (B)a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus[a] (C)by night and said to him, (D)“Rabbi, (E)we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do (F)unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is (G)born (H)again[b] he cannot (I)see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born (J)of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 (K)That which is born of the flesh is (L)flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.[c] 7 (M)Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You[d] must be born (N)again.’ 8 (O)The wind[e] blows (P)where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus said to him, (Q)“How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel (R)and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, (S)we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but (T)you[f] do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 (U)No one has (V)ascended into heaven except (W)he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.[g] 14 And (X)as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man (Y)be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes (Z)in him (AA)may have eternal life.[h]
For God So Loved the World
16 “For (AB)God so loved (AC)the world,[i] (AD)that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not (AE)perish but have eternal life. 17 For (AF)God did not send his Son into the world (AG)to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 (AH)Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not (AI)believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 (AJ)And this is the judgment: (AK)the light has come into the world, and (AL)people loved the darkness rather than the light because (AM)their works were evil. 20 (AN)For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, (AO)lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever (AP)does what is true (AQ)comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
John the Baptist Exalts Christ
22 After this Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and he remained there with them and (AR)was baptizing. 23 John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized 24 (for (AS)John had not yet been put in prison).
25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over (AT)purification. 26 And they came to John and said to him, (AU)“Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, (AV)to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and (AW)all are going to him.” 27 John answered, (AX)“A person cannot receive even one thing (AY)unless it is given him (AZ)from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, (BA)‘I am not the Christ, but (BB)I have been sent before him.’ 29 (BC)The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. (BD)The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, (BE)rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. 30 (BF)He must increase, but I must decrease.”[j]
31 (BG)He who comes from above (BH)is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and (BI)speaks in an earthly way. (BJ)He who comes from heaven (BK)is above all. 32 (BL)He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, (BM)yet no one receives his testimony. 33 Whoever receives his testimony (BN)sets his seal to this, (BO)that God is true. 34 For he whom (BP)God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit (BQ)without measure. 35 (BR)The Father loves the Son and (BS)has given all things into his hand. 36 (BT)Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; (BU)whoever does not obey the Son shall not (BV)see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

3 May isang taong nagngangalang Nicodemus. Isa siya sa mga pinuno ng mga Judio at kabilang sa grupo ng mga Pariseo. 2 Isang gabi, pumunta siya kay Jesus at sinabi, “Guro, alam naming isa kayong tagapagturo na mula sa Dios, dahil walang makakagawa ng mga himalang ginagawa ninyo, maliban kung sumasakanya ang Dios.” 3 Sumagot si Jesus, “Sinasabi ko sa iyo ang totoo, hindi mapapabilang sa kaharian ng Dios ang hindi ipinanganak na muli.”[a] 4 Nagtanong si Nicodemus, “Paanong maipapanganak muli ang isang taong matanda na? 16 “Sapagkat ganito ang pag-ibig ng Dios sa mga tao sa sanlibutan: Ibinigay niya ang kanyang Bugtong[c] na Anak, upang ang sinumang sumasampalataya sa kanya ay hindi mapahamak kundi magkaroon ng buhay na walang hanggan. 17 Sapagkat hindi sinugo ng Dios ang kanyang Anak dito sa mundo upang hatulan ng parusa ang mga tao, kundi upang iligtas sila. 18 Ang sumasampalataya sa kanya ay hindi hahatulan ng kaparusahan, ngunit ang hindi sumasampalataya ay hinatulan na, dahil hindi siya sumampalataya sa kaisa-isang Anak ng Dios. 19 Hinatulan sila dahil dumating ang Anak ng Dios bilang ilaw dito sa mundo, ngunit mas ginusto nilang manatili sa dilim kaysa sa lumapit sa kanya na nagbibigay-liwanag, dahil masama ang mga ginagawa nila. 20 Ang taong gumagawa ng masama ay ayaw sa liwanag at hindi lumalapit sa liwanag, dahil ayaw niyang malantad ang kanyang mga gawa. 21 Ngunit ang namumuhay sa katotohanan ay lumalapit sa liwanag, upang malaman ng lahat na ang mabubuti niyang gawa ay nagawa niya sa tulong ng Dios.”
Si Jesus at si Juan
22 Pagkatapos nito, pumunta si Jesus at ang mga tagasunod niya sa ibang lugar ng Judea. Nanatili sila roon at nagbautismo ng mga tao. 23 Nagbabautismo rin si Juan sa Enon, malapit sa Salim, dahil maraming tubig doon. 25 Ngayon, nagkaroon ng pagtatalo ang ilang tagasunod ni Juan at ang isang Judio tungkol sa bautismo.[d] 26 Kaya pumunta sila kay Juan at sinabi, “Guro, ang kasama nʼyo sa kabila ng Ilog ng Jordan, na ipinakilala nʼyo sa mga tao ay nagbabautismo na rin, at nagpupuntahan sa kanya ang halos lahat ng tao.” 27 Sumagot si Juan, “Walang magagawa ang tao kung hindi ipahintulot ng Dios. 28 Kayo na rin ang makakapagpatunay na sinabi kong hindi ako ang Cristo. Isa lang akong sugo na nauna sa kanya upang ipahayag ang pagdating niya. 29 Kagaya sa isang kasal: ang babaeng ikakasal ay para sa lalaking ikakasal, at ang abay na naghihintay ay natutuwa sa pagdating ng lalaking ikakasal. Ganoon din sa akin, tuwang-tuwa ako ngayon na lumalapit na ang mga tao kay Jesus. 30 Kailangang lalo pa siyang makilala, at ako namaʼy makalimutan na.”

31 Sinabi pa ni Juan, “Si Cristoʼy nagmula sa langit, kaya dakila siya sa lahat. Tayo naman ay taga-lupa at nagsasalita tungkol lang sa mga bagay dito sa lupa. Ngunit si Cristo na nagmula sa langit ay dakila sa lahat. 32 Ipinapahayag niya ang nakita at narinig niya sa langit, ngunit ilan lang ang naniniwala sa kanyang pahayag. 33 Ngunit ang naniniwala sa pahayag niya ay nagpapatunay na totoo ang mga sinasabi ng Dios. 34 Sapagkat si Cristo na sinugo ng Dios ay nagpapahayag sa atin ng mga sinasabi ng Dios, dahil lubos na ipinagkaloob sa kanya ang Banal na Espiritu. 35 Mahal ng Ama ang kanyang Anak, at ipinailalim sa kapangyarihan niya ang lahat. 36 Ang sumasampalataya sa Anak ng Dios ay may buhay na walang hanggan. 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
24 For John was not yet cast into prison.
25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

Jezus krijgt bezoek van Nikodemus
3 Er was een Farizeeër die Nikodemus heette. Hij was één van de Joodse leiders. 2 Op een nacht ging hij naar Jezus toe en zei tegen Hem: "Meester, we weten dat U een leraar bent die door God is gestuurd. Want niemand kan de wonderen doen die U doet. Die kan iemand alleen doen als God met hem is." 3 Jezus antwoordde: "Luister goed! Ik zeg je dat je alleen bij het Koninkrijk van God kan horen als je opnieuw geboren bent." 4 Nikodemus vroeg: "Hoe kun je nu geboren worden als je al oud bent? Je kan toch niet weer de buik van je moeder ingaan en opnieuw geboren worden?" 5 Jezus antwoordde hem: "Luister goed! Ik zeg je: je kan het Koninkrijk van God alleen binnen gaan als je geboren wordt uit water en uit de Geest. Anders niet. 6 Uit een mens wordt menselijk leven geboren. Maar uit Gods Geest wordt geestelijk leven geboren. 7 Het is dus niet vreemd dat Ik zeg dat jullie opnieuw geboren moeten worden. 8 De wind waait waarheen hij wil. Je hoort hem wel, maar je weet niet waar hij vandaan komt of waar hij heen gaat. Zo is het ook met iedereen die uit Gods Geest is geboren."
9 Nikodemus vroeg aan Jezus: "Hoe moet iemand uit Gods Geest geboren worden?" 10 Jezus zei: "Jij bent toch een leraar van Israël, iemand die de mensen leert hoe God wil dat ze leven? Hoe kan het dan dat je deze dingen niet weet? 11 Luister goed! Wij spreken over wat Wij weten. Wij vertellen wat Wij hebben gezien. Maar jullie geloven Ons niet. 12 Jullie geloven Mij niet eens als Ik over gewone, aardse dingen spreek. Hoe zouden jullie Mij dan kunnen geloven als Ik over de hemelse dingen spreek? 13 Er is nog nooit iemand naar de hemel geweest behalve Ik, de Mensenzoon. Ik ben er vandaan gekomen. 14 En net zoals Mozes in de woestijn de slang hoog opgeheven heeft,[a] zo moet ook de Mensenzoon hoog opgeheven worden. 15 Iedereen die in Hem gelooft zal dan niet sterven, maar het eeuwige leven hebben. 16 Want God houdt zoveel van de mensen, dat Hij zijn enige Zoon aan hen heeft gegeven. Iedereen die in Hem gelooft, zal niet verloren gaan, maar zal het eeuwige leven hebben. 17 Want God heeft zijn Zoon niet naar de wereld gestuurd om de mensen te veroordelen, maar om door Hem de mensen te redden. 18 Iedereen die in Hem gelooft, wordt niet veroordeeld. Maar iedereen die níet gelooft, ís al veroordeeld. Want hij heeft niet geloofd in de enige Zoon van God. 19 Die mensen zullen worden veroordeeld omdat het Licht in de wereld is gekomen, en ze liever het donker hadden dan het Licht. Dat is omdat ze slechte dingen doen. 20 Want mensen die slechte dingen doen, hebben een hekel aan het licht. Ze gaan er niet naartoe. Want in het licht zullen hun slechte daden zichtbaar worden. En dan zullen ze gestraft worden. 21 Maar mensen die leven zoals God het wil, gaan wel naar het licht toe. Want dan kan iedereen zien dat ze alles wat ze hebben gedaan, met God hebben gedaan."
Johannes legt uit dat Jezus belangrijker is dan hij
22 Daarna ging Jezus met zijn leerlingen naar de streek Judea. Hij trok daar met hen rond en doopte. 23 Johannes doopte ook, in de plaats Enon bij Salim. Want daar was veel water. De mensen kwamen daarheen en lieten zich door hem dopen. 24 Want Johannes was toen nog niet gevangen genomen.
25 Op een dag hadden de leerlingen van Johannes het met een paar Joden over de manier waarop de schuld voor de ongehoorzaamheid van de mensen afgewassen kan worden. Ze waren het hierover niet met elkaar eens. 26 Ze gingen naar Johannes en zeiden tegen hem: "Meester, die Man die laatst bij u was aan de overkant van de Jordaan, waarvan u zei dat Hij het Offerlam van God is, die doopt óók en alle mensen gaan naar Hém." 27 Johannes antwoordde: "Niemand kan dit begrijpen als God hem daar niet bij helpt. 28 Jullie weten zelf dat ik heb gezegd dat ik niet de Messias ben. Ik ben alleen maar gestuurd om voor Hem de weg te banen.
29 De bruid hoort bij de bruidegom. Maar de vriend van de bruidegom is óók blij. Hij staat bij de bruidegom en is blij over wat hij hem hoort zeggen. Daarom ben ik ook heel erg blij. 30 Híj moet steeds belangrijker worden, en ík moet steeds minder belangrijk worden.
31 De Man die uit de hemel is gekomen, is belangrijker dan alle mensen. Ik ben van de aarde en spreek de taal van de aarde. De Man die uit de hemel is gekomen, is belangrijker dan alle mensen. 32 Hij vertelt over wat Hij heeft gezien en gehoord. Maar niemand gelooft Hem. 33 Wie Hem wél gelooft, zegt daarmee dat God de waarheid is. 34 Want de Man die door God is gestuurd, spreekt de woorden van God. Want God heeft Hem eindeloos veel van zijn Geest gegeven. 35 De Vader houdt van de Zoon en heeft Hem over alles de macht gegeven. 36 Wie in de Zoon gelooft, heeft het eeuwige leven. Maar wie niet gehoorzaam is aan de Zoon, zal niet eeuwig leven. Hij blijft schuldig en God moet hem straffen."

他必興旺，我必衰微
22 這事以後，耶穌和門徒來到猶太地，他和他們住在那裡，並且施洗。 23 約翰也在靠近撒冷的艾嫩施洗，因為那裡水多；眾人都去受洗。 24 那時約翰還沒有入獄。 25 約翰的門徒和一個猶太人為潔淨禮發生辯論。 26 他們來到約翰那裡，對他說：“拉比，你看，從前和你在約旦河東，你為他作見證的那一位，他也在施洗，眾人都到他那裡去了。” 27 約翰回答：“除了從天上賜下來給他的，人就不能得到甚麼。 28 你們自己可以為我作證：我曾說，我不是基督，不過是奉差遣作他的先鋒的。 29 娶新娘的是新郎。新郎的好友站在那裡聽著，聽見新郎的聲音就非常喜樂。因此，我這喜樂滿溢了！ 30 他必興旺，我必衰微。
從天上來的
31 “那從天上來的，是在萬有之上；從地上來的，是屬於地，所講的也是屬於地。那從天上來的，是超越萬有之上。 32 他把所見所聞的見證出來，可是沒有人接受他的見證。 33 那接受他的見證的，就確認 神是真的。 34 神所差來的那一位講 神的話，因為 神把聖靈無限地賜給他。 35 父愛子，已經把萬有交在他手裡。 36 信子的，有永生；不信從子的，必不得見永生， 神的震怒卻常在他身上。”
