⁶ Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit^[a] gives birth to spirit.^(A)

¹⁶ So I say, walk by the Spirit,^(A) and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.^{(B) 17} For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.^(C) They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever^[a] you want.^{(D) 18} But if you are led by the Spirit,^(E) you are not under the law.^(F)

¹⁹ The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality,^(G) impurity and debauchery; ²⁰ idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions ²¹ and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.^(H) I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.^(I)

⁴ in order that the righteous requirement^(A) of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.^(B)

⁵ Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires;^(C) but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.^{(D) 6} The mind governed by the flesh is death,^(E) but the mind governed by the Spirit is life^(F) and peace. ⁷ The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God;^(G) it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. ⁸ Those who are in the realm of the flesh^(H) cannot please God.

⁹ You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh^(I) but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.^(J) And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,^(K) they do not belong to Christ.

²⁶ I will give you a new heart^(A) and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone^(B) and give you a heart of flesh.^{(C) 27} And I will put my Spirit^(D) in you and move you to follow my decrees^(E) and be careful to keep my laws.^(F)

¹⁷ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,^(A) the new creation^(B) has come:^[a] The old has gone, the new is here!^(C)

⁴⁷ The first man was of the dust of the earth;^(A) the second man is of heaven.^{(B) 48} As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.^{(C) 49} And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man,^(D) so shall we^[a] bear the image of the heavenly man.^(E)

⁵⁰ I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood^(F) cannot inherit the kingdom of God,^(G) nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.^(H)

¹⁷ But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.^[a](A)

¹² God saw how corrupt^(A) the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways.^(B)

⁹ No one who is born of God^(A) will continue to sin,^(B) because God’s seed^(C) remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
