⁵ Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, ^(A)unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

^25 (A)Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you ^(B)from all your filthiness and from all your idols. ²⁶ I will give you a ^(C)new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ I will put My ^(D)Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, ^(A)“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the ^[a]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

²⁶ that He might ^[a]sanctify and cleanse her ^(A)with the washing of water ^(B)by the word,

^21 (A)There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism ^(B)(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, ^(C)but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

¹¹ And such were ^(A)some of you. ^(B)But you were washed, but you were ^[a]sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

The Certainty of God’s Witness

⁶ This is He who came ^(A)by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. ^(B)And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. ⁷ For there are three that bear witness ^[a]in heaven: the Father, ^(C)the Word, and the Holy Spirit; ^(D)and these three are one. ⁸ And there are three that bear witness on earth: ^(E)the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.

^11 (A)I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. ^(B)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit ^[a]and fire.
