26 And they came to John and said to him, “(A)Rabbi, He who was with you (B)beyond the Jordan, to whom you (C)have borne witness, behold, He is baptizing and all are coming to Him.” 27 John answered and said, “(D)A man can receive nothing unless it (E)has been given him from heaven. 28 You yourselves [a]are my witnesses that I said, ‘(F)I am not the [b]Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent ahead of Him.’

27 To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. 28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’(C)
