²³ John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized

⁷ He said therefore to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, ^(A)“You brood of ^(B)vipers! Who warned you to flee from ^(C)the wrath to come?

^4 (A)John appeared, baptizing in ^(B)the wilderness and proclaiming ^(C)a baptism of ^(D)repentance ^(E)for the forgiveness of sins. ⁵ And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, ^(F)confessing their sins.

¹⁸ And Jacob came safely^[a] to the city of ^(A)Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, on his way from Paddan-aram, and he camped before the city.
