¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world^(A) to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.^(B)

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven^(A) not to do my will but to do the will^(B) of him who sent me.^{(C) 39} And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me,^(D) but raise them up at the last day.^{(E) 40} For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son^(F) and believes in him shall have eternal life,^(G) and I will raise them up at the last day.”

⁴¹ At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” ⁴² They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph,^(H) whose father and mother we know?^(I) How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”^(J)

²⁹ but I know him^(A) because I am from him and he sent me.”^(B)

⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”^(A)

³⁶ what about the one whom the Father set apart^(A) as his very own^(B) and sent into the world?^(C) Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?^(D)
