^13 (A)No one has ascended into heaven, except ^(B)He who descended from heaven: ^(C)the Son of Man. ¹⁴ And just as ^(D)Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must ^(E)the Son of Man ^(F)be lifted up, ¹⁵ so that everyone who ^[a]believes will ^(G)have eternal life in Him.

³¹ “^(A)He who comes from above is above all; ^(B)the one who is only from the earth is of the earth and speaks of the earth. ^(C)He who comes from heaven is above all. ³² What He has seen and heard, of this He ^(D)testifies; and ^(E)no one accepts His testimony. ³³ The one who has accepted His testimony ^(F)has certified that God is true. ³⁴ For He whom God ^(G)sent speaks the words of God; ^(H)for He does not give the Spirit ^[a]sparingly. ^35 (I)The Father loves the Son and ^(J)has entrusted all things to His hand. ³⁶ The one who ^(K)believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who ^(L)does not ^[b]obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

⁶⁰ So then many of His ^(A)disciples, when they heard this, said, “^(B)This statement is very ^[a]unpleasant; who can listen to it?” ⁶¹ But Jesus, ^(C)aware that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them, “Is this ^[b](D)offensive to you? ⁶² What then if you see ^(E)the Son of Man ^(F)ascending to where He was before? ^63 (G)It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; ^(H)the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. ⁶⁴ But there are ^(I)some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus ^(J)knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and ^(K)who it was who would ^[c]betray Him. ⁶⁵ And He was saying, “For this reason I have ^(L)told you that no one can come to Me unless ^(M)it has been granted him from the Father.”

⁶ So, when they had come together, they began asking Him, saying, “Lord, ^(A)is it at this time that You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” ⁷ But He said to them, “It is not for you to know periods of time or appointed times which ^(B)the Father has set by His own authority; ⁸ but you will receive power ^(C)when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be ^(D)My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and ^(E)Samaria, and as far as ^(F)the remotest part of the earth.”

The Ascension

⁹ And after He had said these things, ^(G)He was lifted up while they were watching, and a cloud took Him up, out of their sight. ¹⁰ And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, then behold, ^(H)two men in white clothing stood beside them, ¹¹ and they said, “^(I)Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who ^(J)has been taken up from you into heaven, will ^(K)come in the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

⁵ For Moses writes of the righteousness that is ^[a]based on the Law, that the person who performs ^[b]them ^(A)will live by ^[c]them. ⁶ But ^(B)the righteousness ^[d]based on faith speaks as follows: “^(C)Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will go up into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), ⁷ or ‘Who will descend into the ^(D)abyss?’ (that is, to ^(E)bring Christ up from the dead).” ⁸ But what does it say? “^(F)The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, ^9 [e]that ^(G)if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and ^(H)believe in your heart that ^(I)God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; ¹⁰ for with the heart a person believes, ^[f]resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, ^[g]resulting in salvation. ¹¹ For the Scripture says, “^(J)Whoever believes in Him will not be ^[h]put to shame.” ¹² For ^(K)there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is ^(L)Lord of ^(M)all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; ¹³ for “^(N)Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
