Jesus Cleanses the Temple

13 (A)And the Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus (B)went up to Jerusalem. 14 (C)And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. 15 And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables; 16 and to those who were selling (D)the doves He said, “Take these things away; stop making (E)My Father’s house a [a]place of business.” 17 His (F)disciples remembered that it was written, “(G)Zeal for Your house will consume me.” 18 (H)The Jews then said to Him, “(I)What sign do You show us [b]as your authority for doing these things?” 19 Jesus answered them, (J)Destroy this [c]sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20 (K)The Jews then said, “It took (L)forty-six years to build this sanctuary, and will You raise it up in three days?” 21 But He was speaking about (M)the sanctuary of His body. 22 So when He was raised from the dead, His (N)disciples (O)remembered that He said this; and they believed (P)the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.

13 And the passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And he found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: 15 and he made a scourge of cords, and cast all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew their tables; 16 and to them that sold the doves he said, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house a house of merchandise. 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, [a]Zeal for thy house shall eat me up. 18 The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? 19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this [b]temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 The Jews therefore said, Forty and six years was this [c]temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the [d]temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he spake this; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
