John 21:20-23
New Living Translation
20 Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved—the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked, “Lord, who will betray you?” 21 Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?”
22 Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.” 23 So the rumor spread among the community of believers[a] that this disciple wouldn’t die. But that isn’t what Jesus said at all. He only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”

John 21:20-23
International Standard Version
Jesus and the Beloved Disciple
20 Peter turned around and noticed the disciple whom Jesus kept loving following them. He was the one who had put his head on Jesus’ chest at the supper and had asked, “Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?”
21 When Peter saw him, he said, “Lord, what about him?”
22 Jesus told him, “If it’s my will for him to remain until I come back, how does that concern you? You must keep following me!” 23 So the rumor spread among the brothers[a] that this disciple wasn’t going to die. Yet Jesus didn’t say to Peter[b] that he wasn’t going to die, but, “If it’s my will for him to remain until I come back, how does that concern you?”
