¹⁹ This He spoke, signifying ^(A)by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, ^(B)“Follow Me.”

^14 (A)knowing that shortly I must ^[a]put off my tent, just as ^(B)our Lord Jesus Christ showed me.

²² Jesus said to him, “If I ^[a]will that he remain ^(A)till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”

²⁰ Then Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; ^(A)yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.

^11 (A)If anyone speaks, let him speak as the ^[a]oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that ^(B)in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the ^[b]dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Suffering for God’s Glory

¹² Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; ¹³ but rejoice ^(C)to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that ^(D)when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. ¹⁴ If you are ^[c]reproached for the name of Christ, ^(E)blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. ^[d]On their part He is blasphemed, ^(F)but on your part He is glorified.

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but ^(A)with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life ^(B)or by death.

^32 (A)that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled which He spoke, ^(B)signifying by what death He would die.

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

³⁶ Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?”

Jesus answered him, “Where I ^(A)am going you cannot follow Me now, but ^(B)you shall follow Me afterward.”

³⁷ Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will ^(C)lay down my life for Your sake.”
